Technique - Exchange

A switch is an exchange movement of a fighter during the fight against a person from the reserve. A switch is initiated either by one of the front line or by the reserve itself.

When the exchange is requested, it is done by calling „exchange“. Thereupon the reserve goes to the offensive side of the person requesting the change. That is, in the case of a right-handed player, to the right. In the case of a left-handed person, on the left. Once there, the readiness to change is indicated by the call „Change ready“. Thereupon the fighting person of the first row releases his position. Without giving up the defensive position. Now the reserve can move into position, smoothly displacing the defensive of the original person.

After the „Change“ call, these phases follow.

The reserve goes to the offensive side of the requesting person. That is, for a right-handed person, right. In the case of a left-handed person, left. Once there, the readiness to switch is indicated by the call „Switch Ready“.

In the figure we see a switch of two right-handed fighters.

Schematic illustration: phase 1 of a switch

The front row fighter releases his position by folding back to his shield side in such a way that he continues to leave the shield in its original place, and it is held by the outstretched arm. Meanwhile, the reserve can move further into the front row and fold the shield forward a bit on the side facing away from the weapons, so that the shield faces the front with its edge. Both are careful to maintain their own defense and also to protect their neighbors.

Now that the position is free, the reserve can move into position, smoothly displacing the original person's defensive. This is done without scrambling, that would only reduce everyone's defense. In doing so, the shield is moved into the line position and the original shield is displaced. This is assisted by the replaced person sliding back the shield held on the outstretched arm. The less resistance is created in this process, the more the reserve can move into the correct position. However, there should be no gap in the process. The reserve pays close attention to its defense and also to the protection of its neighbors. Who, of course, also support the change by protection.

The whole thing is completed by the final retreat of the switched person, who from the moment he folds back, only defensively provides protection for the reserve and tries as little as possible to restrict the movements of the other combatants.
